My Services

Specialist Assessment & Support

Elizabeth Downing, an APC-qualified Specialist Dyslexia Assessor, provides professional, personalised assessment and support services designed to identify dyslexia and related learning differences. Many children feel relieved when they finally understand how they learn. Reports are written to a standard typically accepted by schools and educational professionals, ensuring long-term value for students and adults alike.

Dyslexia Screening (Pre-Diagnostic)

Screening is not a formal diagnosis but helps guide informed decisions about whether a full diagnostic assessment is recommended. Screening tools are used in line with professional best practice. Screening does not constitute a diagnostic assessment under current professional standards and guidelines. Screening does not provide a diagnosis and should not be used as a substitute for a full diagnostic assessment.

Full Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessments

Reports are carried out in line with current professional standards and best practice, and are suitable for school support, access arrangements, and educational planning. Reports meet the requirements typically expected by UK universities and Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) Needs Assessors. Measures are selected based on age and individual needs to ensure a reliable and meaningful profile.

FAQ

How long does the assessment take?

A full diagnostic assessment typically takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. To ensure every student feels confident and performs at their best, we include regular breaks as needed. This structured yet supportive approach ensures we capture a true and reliable profile of their learning strengths and challenges.

What age is suitable for a dyslexia assessment?

Assessments are entirely personalised and tailored to the individual’s age and specific educational stage. Whether for a young child beginning their literacy journey or an adult in the workplace, we select the most appropriate measures to provide a meaningful and age-relevant profile.

Will the report help with school support and exam arrangements?

Yes. All reports are written to the high professional standards typically required by schools and colleges. They provide the formal evidence needed for educational planning and can be used to support applications for Access Arrangements (such as extra time in exams).

What happens after the assessment is finished?

Following the session, you will receive a comprehensive, professionally written report. This document includes a clear analysis of all scores, a formal conclusion, and a suite of evidence-based recommendations and practical strategies designed to help the student or adult achieve their full potential.
